Travel Writing is Exciting

Wouldn’t it be great to travel the world and be paid for it? Maybe world travels aren’t your favorite form of adventure, but instead, day trips and weekend excursions. Find out how to start your exciting career or new hobby as a travel writer. Students will gain invaluable tips on how to get published in newspapers, magazines guidebooks or on the internet. Learn what makes an irresistible story and how to establish your byline and combine your talent for writing and passion for travel with author and journalist Janice Colvin.

This three-day workshop is on Sundays, March 7 through 21 from 1 to 3:30 pm. The fee is $75 for Arts Council members and $90 for non-members. The deadline for registration is March 1. Ages 16 and older.

Colvin has been the editor of the weekly newspaper The Queen Anne’s County Record-Observer in Centreville, MD since 1997.  Prior to that, she was Community News Editor at The Star Democrat, a daily newspaper based in Easton, MD. She writes a column entitled “Shoreside” which is published each Sunday in The Sunday Star Democrat. She holds a Master of Arts degree in journalism and public affairs from the American University, Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Maryland. She has taught at several colleges and for the Arts Council.

The Centre for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing interests, and to develop new skills.
