The Shore Health System and University of Maryland Medical System boards of directors have approved the selection of Kahler Slater as the architectural firm for the proposed regional medical center for a site in Easton adjacent to the Talbot County Community Center.
Kahler Slater, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a nationally recognized architectural firm with extensive new hospital design experience. The firm will create the schematic design that will be included in the Certificate of Need application Shore Health System plans to file with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in September.
Representatives from Kahler Slater have already begun work on the functional programming of the regional medical center. This aspect of the project involves meeting with department leaders in all areas of Shore Health System to discuss the space and processes used to deliver care at Memorial Hospital today and to consider every aspect of care delivery and visitor services envisioned for the regional medical center.
Kahler Slater also will assist with other facets of the project including focus groups and discussions with community leaders, physicians and members of the board of directors. The information they obtain will be used by the architects who will design the new medical center
