On June 25, Eugene J. Newmier, DO, was installed as President of the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) at the organization’s 2010 Annual Assembly in Annapolis. Dr. Newmier, a member of MAFP since 1997, has served in various positions of leadership including his chairmanship of the MAFP Membership and Rural Health Committees.
A graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Newmier completed a residency in family medicine at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio in 1997. He has been practicing family medicine in Cambridge since 1997. A member of the Shore Health System medical staff, Dr. Newmier serves on the Medical Executive Committee and is Chief of Staff for Dorchester General Hospital.
Dr. Newmier’s goals for his term as MAFP president include working for improved patient access to healthcare, increased medical student interest in family medicine, improved continuing medical education for family physicians and physician payment reform.
