Many of the heros from the “Greatest Generation” are slipping from our sight. At Hospice of Queen Anne’s we are honored to care for them when the end of their journey approaches.
Their lives are rich with stories of courage and sacrifice. To honor these veterans and the sacrifices they have made for our country, Hospice of Queen Anne’s has established a Veterans Recognition
Program.
But regardless of when they served, what war or conflict, we honor all of our veterans and what they have given in the service of our nation. They have sacrificed more than most of us can comprehend – leaving behind their family, friends and loved ones while putting themselves in harms way to defend our country.
What we have noticed is that as patients they speak very little of their experiences and never ask for thanks. Many have never been acknowledged for their gift to us. But when asked about their stories they seem eager to share. Our program gives them an opportunity to share with their children, grandchildren events that changed the course of history and guaranteed our freedom.
We hope in the near future to offer them the opportunity to record their stories on audio and video as a gift to their families. We also present our veteran patients with a certificate of appreciation from Hospice of Queen Anne’s along with a stick-pin and small American flag, small tokens for what they have given in return.
At this time we would like to salute the following patients who were recognized and thanked for their contribution to us all. Those that have left us were recognized and thanked prior to their passing.
William Hoxter, Stevensville, MD
Calvin Meadows, Stevensville, MD
Leonard Parker, Centreville, MD

Lawrence Knobbe, Stevensville, MD
