The Academy Art Museum recently hosted a reception honoring Robin Rowan Clarke and Thomas Crawford Clarke, Museum members and benefactors, who recently donated an outdoor sculpture by sculptor John Ferguson. The Corten steel sculpture, “Over the Bridge to Octavia’s House, 1997,” was installed on the Museum’s front lawn and was given by the Clarkes in loving memory of Robert K. Keller, a longtime dedicated supporter of the Museum.
The strong material “bridges” from a sturdy base to a single point. The work could be seen as an emotional metaphor; the title refers to his daughter Octavia, who died a week after birth. Ferguson believes in, seeks, and portrays balance in his work.
