Two KIFA Classes Beginning September 24

19th September 2012 | Posted in Community

Upcoming classes at the Kent Island Federation of Arts with Sue Corrigan-Yo include ‘Introduction to Oil Painting’ on Monday mornings and ‘Beautiful Flowers in Oil’ on Monday afternoons beginning September 24.

Introduction to Oil Painting
During this course you will learn how to start, develop and complete a painting step by step . . . yes, you can do it! We will discuss equipment and materials plus the selection of suitable subject matter for new painters. You will learn how to prepare a value sketch in order to assess the tonal values before you begin the painting. Then we will explore the evolving nature of the painting looking at compositional elements (line, value, color, texture, pattern, rhythm and shapes) and how they all merge to create the finished composition. You will learn to develop ‘hard and soft edges’ and ‘lost and found lines’ and how critical these are to your finished result.

Beautiful Flowers in Oil
This course will focus on painting beautiful summer flowers, either flowers in the landscape or large blooms at close quarters. We will discuss what the artist wants to convey? a dramatic effect, soft focus painting, a light/ bright feeling or a deep moody atmosphere. The Tutor will teach to intermediate level and demonstrate most weeks, you may follow along with the demonstration piece or more advanced students can work at your own pace and choose a personal project of your own choice. There will be guidance and support according to the level of development of each student. Topics covered will be starting and completing the painting, creating the best composition, color mixing and the relationship of color and light, value balance, using ‘lost and found lines’ and ‘hard and soft edges’

Tuition for each class: Members $120/ Non members $160. Registration must be made in advance.
