AAUW (American Association of University Women) invites the public to a presentation and discussion of the Maryland Dream Act and Deferment Act, on Tuesday, October 16th at 6:30 pm at The Pines, Genesis Health Care on Dutchmans Lane. These Acts will appear on the November ballot in Maryland.
The presenter is Patty Silver, the ESL Coordinator of the Chesapeake College Adult Education Program. She is a graduate of Penn State University, earned her master’s degree in TESOL at Salisbury University, and is currently working toward her PhD in Instructional Leadership for Changing Populations at Notre Dame of MD University.
The Dream Act and The Deferment Act are two incredible pieces of policy that have the potential to make a huge impact in the lives of many immigrant young people on the Eastern Shore. Ms Silver will explain the reasoning behind these initiatives, the requirements for those who wish to take advantage of them, and the effects they may have on our community.
Light refreshments will be served.
The AAUW mission is to advance equity for all women and girls, through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. For membership information, call Karen Bailor at 410-770-5223.
