Thanks to Mangold Entertainment, big city musical talent is right at Easton’s back door. Booking concerts at Coffee East and at the Easton Historical Society Auditorium, Mark Mangold has been using his connections for the past year to bring about 150 presentations to Easton since last December.
Recent up-and-coming acts such as Jim White with Katie Herzig, Natalie Zukerman, and The Kennedy’s are used to appearing at larger venues. These musicians tour nationally and have a strong following across the country. Being able to see them at Coffee East is a rare treat.
Mark has booked concerts for nationally recognized venues, including the Ram’s Head On Stage, the Avalon Theatre, the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, the Mojo Room and Lounge, Rams Head Road House, Rams Head Shore House, Rams Head Savage, Scossa Restaurant and Lounge and Rams Head Rehoboth. Relying on a decade of experience in the music industry, Mark’s connections with various talent agents enable him to bring quality performances to this area.
“These are national acts you see at much bigger cities,” Mark says. “These are artists who have been on the David Letterman Show and many of these acts go on to become big stars.”
What music patrons of Coffee East can expect is a unique and intimate performance. With only 70 seats to fill, beer and wine provided by Hair O The Dog Wine & Spirits, and a classy atmosphere, artists frequently mingle with the audience after the show.
With entertainment including folk music, blues, pop rock, rock & roll, soul, rhythm & blues, country and even comedy shows, there is something for everyone. With “Jitterbug Junction” even children’s entertainment is covered. A family man with a toddler and a newborn at home, Mark realized the importance of providing music for children and once again used his connections to bring national children’s acts to this area.
Jitterbug Junction concerts usually appear at the auditorium at the Easton Historical Society, which has about 200 seats. Through Jitterbug Junction, families can enjoy these national children’s acts locally and for a reasonable price.
Getting the word out about these great acts is one of the challenges faced by Mangold Entertainment. Mark, with business partner Miles Garrett, tackles each project individually. Press releases to the local papers and internet sites such as MySpace helps promote the acts, but Mark admits they spend a lot of time passing out old-fashioned flyers throughout downtown Easton.
“We’re both music fans and we put in this time because we love it,” says Mark. “It’s a labor of love.”
In addition to concerts, Mangold Entertainment provides live musical talent for various special occasions including weddings, bar mitzvahs and birthday parties. Drawing from local talent as well as national, Mangold Entertainment can provide anything from processional music to a five-piece band.
Plans for the future include continuing to bring class acts to the Easton area and expanding to include concerts at Chesapeake College. With such a demanding schedule, Mark credits his wife, Danielle, who has been very supportive of his business.
