Purging your home of extra Halloween candy has just become a lot easier thanks to Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins, 10646 River Road, Denton. The adult general and cosmetic practice is hosting a Halloween candy “trade-in,” an innovative way for kids to earn extra money and a convenient way for adults to curb the temptation of eating leftover candy.

The trade-in will be held on Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the dental practice. Candy collected through this special event will be shipped overseas to U.S. Troops along with toothbrushes and toothpaste. This is the second year for the event. Last year the practice collected 129 pounds of candy and donated $502.00 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Maryland Chapter. During the trade-in kids, accompanied by an adult, bring in their candy and are paid $1.00 per pound. The practice will pay out a total of $500.00 over the course of the two-day event. In addition, the practice will match their contribution to the kids dollar for dollar (up to $500.00) with a donation to Denton’s Samaritan House’s Thanksgiving Boxes program.
Kids will also receive toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Adults accompanying the children will receive a special “treat” as they can enter a free raffle for ZOOM! 2™ tooth whitening valued at $680.00. All attending can also sign George Jackson’s Scrolls for U.S. Troops.

Operation We Care, a service project of the Eastern Shore Chapter Harley Owners Group and Harley-Davidson of Ocean City, will include the candy collected in their care packages sent to U.S. Troops. Many of these troops are from the Delmarva area.
