Blood Bank of Delmarva will once again team up with University of Delaware (UD) for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Blood Challenge on the UD campus on Wednesday, November 13.
“We are truly looking forward to partnering with UD again this year to have the largest one-day blood drive,” said Michael Waite, Director of Marketing and Community Relations for Blood Bank of Delmarva. “The fact that we are able to get so many students and community members to join us for this competition truly shows their support for the school as well as their dedication to saving local lives. We are very grateful for all of our donors.”
Each year, UD goes head-to-head with 11 other schools in the CAA to recruit the most blood donors in one day. UD holds four blood drives throughout the Newark campus that day and they are all open to the public.
Donation locations and hours are:
Trabant Multipurpose Rooms from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Christiana Commons from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Perkins Student Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Bob Carpenter Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Last year, Blood Bank of Delmarva and UD won the CAA Blood Challenge for the second year in a row with 1,232 donors giving blood in one day. This year’s goal is to get 1,500 donors on Nov. 13.
“This drive comes at a crucial time for us because it is leading into the holiday season,” said Waite. “Typically, blood donations are lower during the holidays and the blood we collect at the CAA Blood Challenge helps us sustain our inventory during that time.”
Appointments are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome and taken as time allows. To schedule an appointment, visit www.DelmarvaBlood.org or call 1 888 8-BLOOD-8.
