“The polls are closed, the votes have been tallied, but we still do not know the outcome of the hotly contested race in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District. Democrat candidate Frank Kratovil currently holds a slim lead over Republican Andy Harris as they wait for absentee and provisional ballots to be counted.
Currently, Kratovil has 160,780 votes to Harris’s 159,787. It is estimated that about 22,000 absentee ballots must be counted before a winner can be determined.
Update 1:15 PM:
Andy Harris released the following statement:
I will work with the County Boards of Elections and Mr. Kratovil’s campaign to make sure that we come to a conclusion quickly, so that we can get back to work for the people of the First District. I have complete confidence in our election system and the men and women responsible for making sure that the process of counting each vote is fair and straightforward.
