Local non-profits have until July 21 to apply for free communications projects through an annual national pro bono program called CreateAThon® . Applications are available by contacting (410) 604-2319 or create@purplecatpr.com.

Launched in 2005 by Purple Cat, an Eastern Shore public relations agency, and Octo Design Group, a Philadelphia graphic design firm, the Maryland CreateAThon® program is open to all 501(c) 3 non-profits from Baltimore through the Mid-Shore. Previously unselected applicants are encouraged to re-apply.

Since the Maryland program began three years ago, the two businesses have assisted 15 Maryland non-profits and one New Orleans non-profit with nearly $54,000. in graphic design and public relations services. Purple Cat and Octo Design Group are two of the 62 agencies that have joined the CreateAThon® network by presenting programs in their regions. Since 2001 the national CreateAThon® effort has benefited 1,008 non-profit organizations with 2,143 projects valued at $8.4 million.

Founded by Carol D’Agostino of Stevensville, Md., Purple Cat is a boutique public relations firm specializing in comprehensive cost effective public relations services for non-profits and small businesses. In addition to operating Purple Cat, D’Agostino also writes “Positively PR”, a monthly column published in the Chesapeake Business Ledger, and is a board member at Foundation for Community Partnerships, Centreville. D’Agostino is also publicity chair for the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center’s “Wet & Wild” Auction.
