In celebration of the Shore Update’s 25 year anniversary this month, we are all about the number 25!
A community is only as special as the people who live in it. We’re guessing that’s why are county is so awesome!
25 Moments that Touched Our Hearts
1. Participating with Adopt-A-Bear and seeing the warehouse of donations
2. Witnessing the people who came together for Cancer Comfort Angels
3. Hospice of Queen Anne’s commitment and the calls and notes we see from the families they helped
4. Meeting the Schwink and Candelena families at Christmas by the Bay
5. Our QAC singles nominees coming together and raising $2000 in an hour-and-a-half
6. The outreach we received during Jacob’s illness
7. Bosom buddies raising $1 million in just five years
8. The commitment of the volunteers for all the local animals in need
9. The number of requests we get nominating a volunteer for our weekly “Lend a Hand” column
10. The QAC Chamber staff taking care of Wally Dashiell when she had surgery
11. The number of people that joined through Facebook and other social media to help the Cascia’s find their missing dog
12. The people who have run and served as QAC Commissioner… you may not always agree with their stances, but you have to give them credit for caring about their community to withstand another firestorm
13. Yours, Mine & R’s event that raised $10,000 for breast cancer
14. Linda Austin and Rita’s of Kent Island always jumping in to help with local fund raising
15. All the businesses that open their hearts and doors to donate to our community
16. The servicemen and women of our county
17. LCA’s and Stevensville Middle School’s Pennies for Patients fund raisers…. there’s nothing that warms our hearts more than when children reach out to help
18. The people that band together when a local family loses their home and possessions in a fire.
19. Sudlersville youth group who held food drive
20. The stream of people standing up to make a change at the Rts. 301 & 304 intersection after a local teen was killed and others were injured
21. The farm bureaus of Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, and Caroline counties working together to raise $106,000 for the Hudson family and their farm
22. The many businesses and volunteers that go “unnoticed” for all they do
23. Queen Anne’s County high school students coming in 3rd place for the upper eastern shore’s most number of donations in the Delmarva Blood Drive
24. All the area church and community dinners… they have become so numerous that we have created a new section for them in the paper
25. Our loyal readers… because without them, we’d be nothing
