$30,000 Raised for First Responders

Choptank Transport Golf Tourney Raises $30K for First Responders

EASTON, MARYLAND – November 20, 2020 – Choptank Transport hosted its second annual charity golf tournament, “10 Better Than Par – First Responders’ Edition” on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Hog Neck Golf Course. The skies were blue, the temperature was perfect, and the event was a huge success raising $30,000 dollars for ten local first-responder organizations. Combined with last year’s total, the 10 Better Than Par tournaments have raised over $50,000 for charities.

“In a year full of canceled events, we weren’t sure we were going to be able to have a second annual tournament,” said Matt Andrew, Choptank’s spokesperson for the event. “But the community rallied around the cause to help first responders. The tournament was especially important this year because many organizations had to forgo their primary fundraisers due to COVID-19.”

Participants enjoyed a variety of golf challenges, including a best-ball scramble, first-second-third closest-to-hole contests, and a putting contest. A 50/50 raffle was also part of the day’s events with a jackpot of $2,100.

The ten first-responder organizations that will receive proceeds from the tournament are Preston Volunteer Fire Department, Food for Learning, Compass Regional Hospice, Talbot Paramedic Foundation, University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton, Easton Volunteer Fire Department, Trucking Cares Foundation, Mid-Shore Meals Til Monday, Sante Group’s Crisis Intervention Training program, and the Care Packs of Talbot County.

A huge thank-you goes out to the fundraiser’s many sponsors, including Preston Automotive Group, Al and Becky Turner, PNC, Provident State Bank, Hays Company, Professional leasing, Accounting Strategies Group, Eastern Shore Smile Solutions, MJH Construction, Shore United Bank, TGM Group, Trucker Tools, Hunting Creek Mini-Storage, Whitten Group, Super Vending, Tri-Gas & Oil, Nagel Farm Service, McAllister, Detar, Showalter and Walker, LLC, Parker Counts, The Benson Dulin Group, Inacom Information Systems, Ring Central, Heritage Financial Consultants, LAVA Technology Services, Franklin and Prokopik, McLeod Software, Mid-Shore Community Foundation, the Star-Democrat, Nortec Communications, Sisk Fulfillment Services, Avalon Risk Management, Schuman’s Cleaning Service, Gillis Gilkerson, National Property Inspections, H&M Bay, Whelan Family Holdings, Ana-Gail Farms, Express Employment Professionals, and Lane Engineering.
