This Eastern Shore tradition features crab racing, beauty pageants, a parade, crab cooking and picking contests, crafts, games, amusement rides, swim meet, boat docking, and fireworks.

What is so fascinating about watching a few dozen crabs race to the edge of a chalk-drawn circle? You’ll find out the weekend of September 4–6 when you come out for this year’s National Hard Crab Derby in Crisfield.

It all began on a summer day in 1948 when a good portion of Crisfield’s populace witnessed the spectacle, enticed to the town’s post office by Crisfield Times publisher Egbert L. Quinn, who staged the affair and thereby founded this annual event.
