Another Bay Bridge Airport Mishap

A two-seat, single-engine Sierra airplane was destroyed last week in a crash at Bay Bridge Airport, but the pilot walked away unharmed. The crash happened as the plane was coming in for a landing. Pilot Doug Coon of Pasadena told Maryland State Police he was approaching the airport from the west when a sudden gust of wind forced the plane’s right wing up. The left wing was then forced down into the dirt along the west end of the runway, causing the plane to spin in a cartwheel fashion and strike the far west portion of the runway. This is the third accident reported at Bay Bridge Airport this year. In April, a Silver Spring woman was injured at the airport when she walked into the moving propeller of the plane in which she had just landed. In March, a plane coming in to land struck a deer on the runway; the pilot was uninjured.
