Paddling the Pickering
Tuesday April 7, 2009, 6:00 PM

Spring is here, and the water is glistening. Join us for a relaxing evening canoe on the calm waters of Pickering Creek. Enjoy the springtime sights of Osprey and Kingfishers diving for fish and Barn Swallows swooping for insects. Afterwards, sit by the campfire and mellow out with a couple marshmallows. Families welcome! To register call 410 822 4903.

Paddling the Pickering
Saturday, April 18, 2009 10 AM-12 PM

Come out and enjoy spring while paddling on Pickering Creek! The whole family can enjoy the wildlife and fresh leaves that flourish in the Chesapeake Bay this time of year. Please bring sunscreen, water bottles, and your sense of adventure! To register call 410 822 4903.

Farm Field Walk
Tuesday April 21, 2009, 9:00 AM

Join us as we stretch our legs across the Pickering Creek Farm Fields. We will take a jaunt to corners of the property that usually don’t get visited on this 2-4 mile walk. The terrain is flat, but can be uneven and wet in spots, so hiking boots are recommended. We will keep our eyes open overhead for soaring eagles, wood ducks and arriving osprey and migrants. To register call 410 822 4903.

Crossing the Line Forest Walk
Saturday April 25, 2009, 9:00-10:30AM

Join us as we venture beyond the property line of Pickering Creek Audubon Center to the north to explore the 30 acres of mature woods of our neighbor. This guided walk should yield great opportunities for woodpeckers and thrush and hopefully some nice mature trees and emerging woodland ephemeral plants. To register call 410 822 4903.

Project Clean Stream with Pickering Creek
Saturday, April 4
Site and time TBA
Project Clean Stream is an annual April stream clean up held in Central and Eastern Maryland. Since its inception in the Jones Falls watershed over 30 years ago, this annual event has grown from a local trash pick up to encompass about 100 sites around Maryland. This program is supported by Audubon’s TogetherGreen program. We’ll have more details at www.pickeringcreek.org about our PCS event closer to April 4. To register call 410 822 4903.

Pickering Creek’s Earth Day Workday
Sunday, April 19
10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Celebrate Earth by hiking, biking, kayaking, rowing, or driving to Pickering Creek for our annual Earth Day Workday! We will be undertaking a number of projects to enhance bird, wildlife, and people habitat and ensuring that our visitors—both feathered and flesh—make the most of our site during the spring and summer. Projects will include native plantings, invasive plant removal, and more. We’ll also provide a fresh, tasty, and locally grown lunch to all of our volunteers, along with a few other goodies! This program is supported by Audubon’s TogetherGreen program. To register call 410 822 4903.
