The Queen Anne’s County Chamber of Commerce has recognized Biana Arentz, owner of Hemingway’s Restaurant, Hemingway’s Caterers and Lola’s Sunset Grill, as “Business Leader of the Year”. The award was handed out during the chamber’s Excellence in Business Luncheon on Thursday, October 23, 2008. “The Business Leader of the Year is presented to an individual who has demonstrated the exceptional qualities that are needed in managing a successful business”, said Merry Tobin, chairman of the chamber’s Board of Directors. “The nominee should be a visionary and possess outstanding leadership attributes”.
This award comes at a time when renovations to Hemingway’s Restaurant are almost near completion. Hemingway’s Restaurant has long been a landmark to those traveling eastbound on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (the restaurant sits at the foot of the bridge on the scenic Eastern Shore side of Maryland). The renovations are the outcome of a settlement that was reached between The Arentz’s and the owners of the Bay Bridge Marina earlier this year. In January of 2006 – Steve and Biana Arentz- were named by the Capital Newspaper as one of the Top Ten Most Interesting Business People of the year because of their decision to fight their battle to stay at their location. Almost three years later Hemingway’s…and the Arentz’s are still there. The community has rightfully recognized Biana in her efforts to keep the Hemingway’s Restaurant a tradition and landmark as well as for her involvement with well worthy organizations. Biana is on the board of Anne Arundel Medical Center; she is a founding member and on the board of Bosom Buddies Charities Inc. and also serves on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
One of the most significant changes that took place after the settlement was the external paint which now boasts a nautical blue and bright yellow color scheme – Naval Academy colors. Guests can dine for lunch or dinner comfortably inside the cozy dining room or on the waterfront Veranda with fireside seating. During the season, Lola’s Sunset Grill (downstairs at Hemingway’s) offers outside casual dining on the patio with tropical libations served from the dock bar area offering live music. The menus include a wide variety of seafood dishes from the Bay; signature Maryland Crabcakes as well as international daily specials along with a choice Wine list that is hand selected and updated weekly. The full menu can be viewed and downloaded by visiting the website at www.hemingwaysmaryland.com .
Whether you are having a birthday celebration; anniversary; corporate party; bar or bat mitzvah; rehearsal dinner or wedding, Hemingway’s is the place to be. With its stunning bay views, food, sunsets and customer service they will charm you and your guests. Hemingway’s Caterers makes it possible to bring a part of Hemingway’s to the location of your choice! The upstairs bar boasts a wonderful Happy Hour from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday through Friday with half price appetizers and special drink prices. Make sure to visit Hemingway’s on your actual birthday and show your driver’s license for your complimentary Birthday lunch or dinner. Lunch and Dinner menus are available every day of the week from 11 AM until close.
If you decide that you want to live closer to Hemingway’s, Steve or Biana can help you find your dream home on the Eastern Shore as they are also both licensed real estate agents with Long and Foster specializing in waterfront properties and the golf community of Prospect Bay.
