Ballroom and Tap in Centreville

There are many ways to exercise, but few are as enjoyable as dancing. Adding great music to any routine has a way of making movement fun while getting you into top shape before you know it. For younger dancers, learning to dance provides a solid foundation for developing coordination, rhythm and best of all, self-confidence.

Students ages 15 and older can learn Ballroom and Latin dancing with dance champion Amanda Showell. Classes in beginning Cha-Cha and intermediate Tango start on October 15. These four-week classes teach the basic steps, rhythms and techniques of each dance, with advance techniques given to intermediate students. Ballroom classes are held regularly at the Centre for the Arts at 7 and 8 pm. The class cost is $45 for members of the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council and $50 for non-members. The deadline for registration is October 8.

Dance instructor Jeanne Duran offers Dance and Creative Movement for the youngest dancers, ages 3 to 5 on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11 am. For slightly older students, ages 4 to 6, the Tiny Tappers class gently teaches coordination, focus and live performance skills. Additional Tap classes are offered for ages 7 to 12 and an adult Tap class. These classes are held on Thursday nights and start at 6 pm for the youngest dancers. The next session of classes begin on October 15. Pre-registration is recommended.

Classes are held at the Centre for the Arts and are designed to renew existing artistic interests, and to develop new skills. Registration materials are available at 206 S. Commerce St., Centreville, MD, Tuesday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, or by calling 410-758-2520, online, www.arts4u.info or request via email at exhibit@arts4u.info
