An 11-year-old Bay City girl sustained first-degree burns to her face while attempting to light a gas barbecue grill. Deborah and Dennis Kruger told officials their daughter, Caroline, was on the rear deck of their two-story home on McKay Road starting the grill when the flash fire occurred. The girl was flown by Maryland State Police MedEvac helicopter to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Paul Schlotterbeck. He said the child was held overnight for observation and released Friday.
