Become a Volunteer for the Talbot County Department of Social Services

To become a volunteer for the Talbot County Department of Social Services you must be 18 years or older, out of high school, good with people, have a willingness to follow procedures, and be a team player. Volunteers fill out an application, and undergo an interview plus background and reference checks.

Volunteer orientations provide new volunteers with an overview of the agency as well as a meeting with each unit supervisor to hear about department programs and volunteer assignments. When a volunteer receives and accepts an assignment, he or she will be matched to a supervisor and receive additional information, support or training as needed. Volunteers commit to one year of service but TCDSS works within their personal schedules taking into account availability, family needs, commitments, vacations, etc. Some volunteer assignments are weekly, others are special events that are a one-day commitment.
