Beginning Guitar Class

Musician and instructor Doug Puls offers a new class at the Centre for the Arts in Centreville, Maryland. Students ages thirteen and up who are interested in guitar basics can join Puls in this newly formed class. Tuning, learning chords, melody, using the flat pick and an introduction to finger picking folk strums are part of this class. Students will also be taught techniques for proper hand warm-up exercises and other essentials of guitar playing and maintenance.

This six week class starts on Saturday, November 1. Two times are available, 12:30 to 1:30 or 2 to 3 pm. Materials: standard six-string guitar, guitar tuner. The registration deadline for both classes is October 28. Classes are $100 for Arts Council members and $120 for non-members.

Puls has been a guitarist for the Gene Walker Big Band Jazz), Sentimental Journey (Swing, Big Band), Just Jazz Quintet and many more. He is an instructor at Chesapeake College, Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks and Essex Community College. He has performed for country clubs, coffee houses, retirement homes and even for the President of the United States.

The Center for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests, and to develop new skills.
