New instructor Doug Puls will be teaching 2 classes this fall in both Blues Harmonica and Blues Guitar. These classes are for ages 15+ and begin on Friday, September 19 to October 24. Harmonica is from 10:30-12 pm and Guitar is from 1-2:30 pm. Students will learn fundamentals of playing the “Blues Cross Harp” method of Harmonica including note bending, tongue blocking, and blues scale. Improvise and play Blues in the first two weeks of instruction. Materials: Hohner Marine Band Harmonic in the key of C. Guitar students will gain a solid background on 12 bar and 8 bar blues forms. Learn finger styles, slide guitar, and improvise over cool sounding chords and rhythms. Materials: guitar and tuner. Registration deadline for both classes is September 12.
Puls has been guitarist for the Gene Walker Big band Jazz), Sentimental Journey (Swing, Big Band), Just Jazz Quintet and much more. He is an instructor at Chesapeake College, Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks and Essex Community College. He has performed for country clubs, coffee houses, retirement homes and even for the President of the United States.
