Boat Fire In Chester River

A 41-foot Sea Ray caught fire in the Chester River forcing 61-year-old HBW Schroeder of Chestertown to jump into the cold river. Schroeder says the starboard engine overheated, and when he opened the engine compartment, it caught fire. Schroeder says he stayed with the boat as long as he could before jumping into the water. He swam to the aft ladder where another boater pulled him to safety. Fire boats from Grasonville and Kent Island put out the fire. Schroeder does not know whether the boat can be repaired and re-floated.
