On Wednesday, June 24, from noon to 1:00 p.m., boys 8 and older are invited to bring a favorite book or two along with a bag lunch to the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library. There, over lunch (with dessert and beverages provided by the library), they’ll get to talk about their books with Bill Peak—“the library guy”— whose column about life in the library is published monthly in the pages of The Star Democrat.

Speaking of the need for such a boys-only program, Peak said, “Studies have shown that boys are two to five times more likely to have problems with reading than girls. By high school, nearly 50% of boys label themselves ‘non-readers.’ It’s clear that reading is critical to one’s success in school and work, but it can also add so much to one’s appreciation of life. Reading has been one of the great joys of my life. I don’t think any child, male or female, should be denied its pleasure.”
