The lobby of The Memorial Hospital at Easton was standing room only on June 30 as the staff of Shore Regional Breast Center celebrated the grand opening of their expanded facility. The renovation doubled the size of the facility, which provides access to the latest clinical developments in breast health and a caring environment for women and their family members throughout all stages of a breast cancer diagnosis.
Addressing the guests, Jerry Batley, MD, medical director for Shore Regional Breast Center, said, “This is a momentous occasion for Shore Health System, Shore Regional Cancer Center and the people of the Mid-Shore region. The expansion of the Breast Center is one more example of Shore Health System’s steadfast commitment to quality healthcare. This new facility allows us to continue to do what we love to do – provide the most comfortable and up to date care for women during a health crisis.”
Dr. Batley, who provides clinical and surgical services for the Breast Center with Brooke Buckley, MD, added, “What makes this model work is the coordination that takes place between the staff of Shore Regional Breast Center and a woman’s primary care physician and the other specialists who provide expert care, including radiologists, oncologists and clinical trials specialists.”
Mary Jane Flynn, BSN, RN, OCN, nurse coordinator for Shore Regional Breast Center, closed the program with a personal message. “Those of us who work at the Breast Center are dedicated to more than high quality healthcare. We are part of the family for so many women,” she said. “Women come back for years after they have completed treatment because we have become their friends.”
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests toured the Breast Center, which consists of three exam rooms, private offices for the physicians and nursing staff, and a Breast Cancer Resource Center which doubles as a private space for family conferences. The Breast Center is also conveniently located to Radiology, where digital mammography is performed for screening and diagnostic mammograms.
