“In the past week, numerous burglaries at local businesses have occurred in both Northern and Southern areas of the county. In response, Sheriff R. Gery Hofmann has increased patrols at area businesses and assigned the Sheriff’s Office Resource Unit to assist the Detectives in the investigation of these cases. The Sheriff’s Office is also working with police in neighboring areas in an effort to identify and make arrests in these crimes.
On 11/11/2008 Deputies were dispatched to Jeannie’s Shore Produce located at 5306 Church Hill Road, near Church Hill for a reported attempted break in. The store Owner, Jeanie Coleman reported that she had opened the store that morning and found a window broken, but nothing appeared to have been taken.
Also on 11/11/2008 Ms. Angela Cox reported that the booth “”Wineaux”” located at the Prime Outlets in Queenstown had been broken into between 9PM on the 10th to 1030 hours on the 11th and the petty cash was missing. The loss including damages was estimated to be at $250.00
On Wednesday November 12, 2008 at 0828 Hours, the Sheriff’s Office responded to Stevensville for a burglary discovered by the owner at Rita’s Italian Ice. Unknown person(s) had made forced entry into the business and damaged four cash registers causing estimated $2000 damage to the machines. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. Surveillance video showed one subject wearing a hooded sweatshirt and tennis shoes inside the building and a passenger car occupied by at least one other person outside. Processing the scene also revealed that the burglar had been cut while inside the business
At 0900 Hours on November 12th, 2008, Mr. Salvadore Grande reported that he had discovered a burglary had occurred overnight at his business, Roma Pizza located at 6346 Church Hill Road, near Chestertown. Unknown person(s) had broken a window, entered the business and had stolen the money drawer from the cash register and the tip jar. The estimated loss including damages was under $350.
On November 12, 2008 at about 1900 hours, a burglary at a model home located at 305 Austin Court, Church Hill was reported. A witness called in advising of a possible burglary in progress and when Sheriff’s Deputies arrived they located a damaged door, damages inside in the kitchen and to a light fixture. When the builder arrived he verified that a GE Stainless Steel refrigerator was missing valued at $2500. Damages were also estimated at $2500.
