Chesapeake Volunteer Center Job Opening

The Chesapeake Volunteer Center is offering one motivated individual the opportunity to spend a year serving in the upper eastern shore as an AmeriCorps*VISTA (domestic Peace Corps) member. More details and compensation/benefits (PDF) In return, the AmeriCorps*VISTA member will receive a modest annual living allowance, training, health insurance, and student loan deferment, as well as a post-service education award of up to $4,725 to help pay for future college courses or student loans. The VISTA member will work on facilitating volunteer activity throughout the five county area. The VISTA member will also coordinate marketing and publicity for the center and coordinate events and recognition for volunteer center participants. The VISTA will collaborate with local volunteer agencies to design meaningful and appropriate opportunities, coordinate marketing and community outreach efforts, including web-based communications, print media, and collateral materials associated with the Volunteer Center. The individual will help maintain a database and computer records of program data, as well as conduct other administrative tasks required to support the program. The position also involves creating assessment and evaluation tools to track program effectiveness.

Candidates must be self-starters, at least 18 years of age, have their own transportation, love working with people, and have good organizational and computer skills. Candidates must also have proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Some web page design and desktop publishing skills are desirable. This position is a mixture of office work and fieldwork, so qualified candidates must be willing to attend weekend and evening meetings and volunteer projects.
