The Queen Anne’s County Chapter and the Talbot County Chapter of the Chesapeake Women’s Network joined together on Tuesday, April 28, for the group’s second annual joint “Showcase,” mini-tradeshow featuring members’ businesses and organizations.

More than 40 members from both groups set up displays at the American Legion in Easton at 6 pm to “showcase” their services and products. The event was open only to CWN members and invited guests. All proceeds benefit the scholarship funds for each chapter. This year, the American Legion also will be making a contribution to both groups for their scholarships.

Marcia Burgoon, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Waterman Realty, started the Chesapeake Women’s Network on Kent Island in 1986. A second chapter was started in Talbot County. Marcia currently is president of the Talbot CWN Chapter. Lisa McCarthy, a settlement officer with Homeland Title & Escrow Ltd, is president of the Queen Anne’s CWN chapter.

CWN was formed to facilitate communications, share support, identify resources and stimulate opportunities for professional women in the community. This dynamic, rapidly growing network of professional women is a contact organization for the exchange of ideas, career services, job opportunities, educational programs and other relevant information. An added benefit is the opportunity to meet many professional women and stay in touch with them on a regular basis in a friendly, welcoming setting.

Both groups also provide annual scholarships for women who want to continue their education in order to advance their careers, change careers or return to the workforce to improve the socio-economic conditions for themselves and their families, Last year, both groups awarded scholarships to deserving recipients who went through an extensive application process.

CWN meetings are not open to the public, but members are encouraged to invite guests who may become potential members. To join, two current members must sponsor them. The positive response to the groups’ first joint CWN networking opportunity is indicative of its great value to members. Visitors cannot help but notice the energy and enthusiasm of CWN participants.
