Maryland State Police said Ralph J. Peck, 18, of Chestertown was injured in a one-car crash on state Route 291. Peck was driving a 2006 Kia Rio LX east on Route 291, west of state Route 298, when the car crossed the opposite travel lane, went off the road, hit an embankment and overturned. Peck was flown by a state police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, according to a hospital spokesman. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office and Crumpton and Kennedyville volunteer fire departments responded. The state police said Peck suffered significant injuries, but he was coherent and spoke with police and emergency medical services personnel at the scene.
