Children Vote for Best Picture Book

On Thursday, January 22 from 10:30-11:30 a.m., children at the Kent Island Library, 200 Library Circle, Stevensville, will have the opportunity to look at some of the best picture books of 2008 and to select their own “mock Caldecott” award winner.

The American Library Association will announce on Monday, January 26 the winner of the Randolph Caldecott Medal, awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

In schools and libraries across the country, children and adults enjoy participating in mock Caldecott awards prior to the announcement of the actual award. “These discussions get us excited about books. Everyone hopes their favorite will become the winner,” said children’s librarian Julie Ranelli, who is a member of ALA’s 2010 Caldecott committee.

This program is free of charge and open to children ages 7 and older. No registration is required. For more information, please call the library at 410-643-8161 or visit the library’s website, www.quan.lib.md.us.
