Chimney Swifts Are Here For The Summer

Chimney Swifts are small, brownish-black birds that sometimes are mistaken for bats. Officials for the state Department of Natural Resources say they are actually good guests and do not damage chimneys. The Swifts stay for a couple of months and eat a third of their weight each day in bugs. Like all migratory birds, they are protected from eviction by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
