Church Hill Standoff Ends Without Incident

An early morning police standoff near Church Hill ended after police took a 17-year-old Chestertown boy into custody. The boy allegedly had a loaded shotgun and threatened a group at a party on Ewingtown Road. Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s deputies and Maryland State Police responded after a 911 caller reported gunshots and a man inside the house with a gun. Police set up a perimeter and contacted the man via telephone. The man came out of the house unarmed and was taken to the Chester River Medical Center for treatment, police said. A loaded shotgun was recovered, but there was no indication of shots fired. Police said there had been a party at the house where several people, allegedly including several underage people, were drinking. The man and a woman had an argument in a bedroom and when several people checked on the couple, the man allegedly had a gun and said he could harm people. The juveniles were released to parents, the homeowner returned and took possession of the house, and police checked people’s sobriety before they drove.
