Sharon Criss of Denton is collecting supplies for Comfort Bags, which she donates to the Birthing Center at The Memorial Hospital at Easton. The bags are given to parents who are coping with the illness or death of an infant.

Criss continues this project in memory of “Baby Criss” who died on a Mother’s Day weekend and for her newborn son, Nathanael Michael, who died on Father’s Day weekend, a week after he was born.

“The bags contain some simple necessities that help families cope while attending to a hospitalized child,” Criss explains. The canvas tote bags are filled with personal hygiene items, such as a toothbrush, mouthwash, tissues, deodorant and shampoo. The bag also contains a disposable camera, paper and pens for journaling, stamps for mailing notes to friends, coloring books for young siblings, playing cards and snacks.

A shopping list of needed items is available at Easton Family Physicians, which is located at 508 Idlewild Avenue in Easton. Donations of Comfort Bag items can be delivered to Easton Family Physicians, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monetary donations can be made by sending a check payable to Grace Lutheran Church (memo: Comfort Bags), 111 Brooklets Avenue in Easton. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has pledged to match funds raised for this project up to a total of $500.
