Congratulations Coach Barletta & The KI Buccaneers

The Kent Island High School Buccaneers have been holding their heads high since they won the Class 2A State Championship baseball game. The Buccaneers defeated Marriotts Ridge with a score of six to five at Ripken Stadium on Saturday, May 24.

As the first state baseball championship in the history of Kent Island High School, the win has boosted the team’s morale considerably. According to Kent Island Coach Rocco Barletta, Eastern Shore baseball teams in general are considered less competitive than those on the Western Shore.

“We are definitely trying to show that baseball is as good over here as it is across the Chesapeake Bay,” he says.

Coach Barletta is also a fifth grade teacher at Grasonville Elementary school. This is his third year with the Bucs. He started as assistant coach his first year with the team. He has held the position of head coach for the past two years. Currently, Doug Thiel, Walt Pyzik and Hubie Farrell are assistant coaches for the team.

Players on the team roster include Teddy Breeding, Tim Bearor, Chris Murchake, Andrew Aus, Devin Gardner, Mike Johnston, Kyle Sadowski, Joey Kirby, Brett Nissen, Danny Sloan, Joey Zonetti, Chris Farrell, Shane McComas, Bobby Mills, Tim Dinnis, Lingan Sweeney, Alex Gisselbeck, Louie McClain, Ryan Earls, Cory Kirby.
