United States Congressman Frank Kratovil (D- 1st Maryland) will be meeting with the leadership of Shore Health System (SHS) and University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) at The Memorial Hospital at Easton on Friday, February 20.
The visit will enable the Congressman to speak with healthcare leaders and providers about the issues affecting them in their hospitals and outpatient services. In particular, the Congressman wants to understand issues that may be unique to Maryland hospitals and rural health systems in his District.
“This session will be dealing with some of the most critical health care concerns facing our nation,” said Congressman Kratovil. “I am going to be taking votes in Congress that will affect how health care in this country and our region is administered; but before that, I want to use opportunities such as this one to visit the men and women on the front lines,” he adds.
“This tour of Memorial Hospital will give me the opportunity to see what physicians, nurses and patients have to say about health care and what they believe can be done to improve the system in the United States,” Kratovil explains. “I will take their thoughts and input back to Washington to include them in the national debate about health care.”
Following a meeting with SHS CEO Joseph Ross and UMMS CEO Robert Chrencik and members of their teams, Congressman Kratovil will tour Shore Health System’s Requard Center for Acute Rehabilitation and the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Memorial Hospital. The Congressman will be escorted by physicians and staff who will explain these services and their impact upon quality of life for people across the Delmarva Peninsula.
The Requard Center for Acute Rehabilitation offers a comprehensive program of nursing care and physical, occupational and speech therapy designed to help people ages 18 and older achieve independence in their daily lives following an accident, injury or illness.
The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Shore Health System, which is part of the University of Maryland Medical System Joslin Affiliate Program, is the only diabetes specialty clinic on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and provides medical management and nutrition counseling as well as advice on exercise, stress reduction and lifestyle modifications.
“We are proud and pleased that Congressman Kratovil has chosen to visit us,” says Joe Ross, Shore Health System’s CEO. “We welcome the opportunity to share our healing mission and our day to day work with him. The physicians and staff join me in welcoming the Congressman on February 20.”
