A convicted cigarette smuggler has been charged with sneaking $25,000 in contraband cigarettes into Maryland. The comptroller’s office says 59-year-old Ming Keang Louie of Salisbury was arrested in Worcester County and charged with transportation and possession of contraband cigarettes. He was driving a Dodge Caravan with North Carolina registration on U.S. Route 13 when enforcement agents stopped his van. The comptroller says enforcement agents found nearly 4,900 packs of cigarettes worth $24,500 inside. Louie was charged in May 2006 with smuggling 2,400 packs of contraband cigarettes into Maryland and later convicted. The comptroller’s agents have seized more than 50,000 packs of contraband cigarettes worth more than $230,000 this year.
