Words do more than communicate ideas. The words we speak create the world. That is the premise of “Creative Conversations: Using Language to Build Relationships,” a workshop led by Linda Mastro at Evergreen Cove Holistic Learning Center on Sunday, March 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“Imagine a world in which every thought that crosses your mind and every word you speak immediately comes true?” Mastro says. “In this world, how would choose to think and speak? How would you change how you interact with others?”
In this workshop, participants use examples from their own lives to observe the distinction between facts and the stories they make up about them. The group will examine how the stories we create – in our heads and through our speech – can limit and enrich relationships with friends, family and co-workers. Everyone will leave with a set of practices to support them in applying the art of creative conversations in their daily lives.
Anyone who relies on communication to achieve results in partnership with other people will learn practical skills to enhance their use of language. Mastro says, “Communication is the sea in which humans swim. Just as fish forget that they are water creatures, we forget that we are language beings. We forget that one word used skillfully can reduce unnecessary suffering and open up possibilities for more peaceful, healthy relationships.”
Linda Mastro is a professional writer and public relations specialist.
