Cross-Country Stars Hurt In Car Crash

Four members of the North Caroline High boys’ cross-country team were injured last week in a crash on Sawmill Road in Ridgely. North Caroline head coach Glen Whiteley said juniors Guy Nyland and Kyle Kellermeyer were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma. According to Whiteley, Nyland suffered a shattered heel and was undergoing surgery. The coach, a longtime Emergency Medical Technician in Anne Arundel County, said Nyland’s season ended with the injury. Whiteley said Kellermeyer suffered some abdominal bruising and that all scans came back clean.

Whiteley said Bo Dyson and Ethan DeLude, also juniors, were taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital at Easton, where they were treated and released. DeLude suffered a broken arm and Dyson was treated for abrasions. According to Whiteley, Desi Guida, a North Caroline runner, came upon the accident, called 911 and then phoned his coach. North Caroline was scheduled to scrimmage Saints Peter and Paul. Nyland had been North Caroline’s No. 2 runner this season and was a strong candidate to qualify for the state meet in Hereford next month.
