Shore Health System’s Center for Integrative Medicine will present “A Day of Mindfulness” on Saturday, October 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This workshop will be held at Talbot Hospice House, 586 Cynwood Drive in Easton.
Larissa Kitenko, PharmD, a clinical pharmacist and certified hospital chaplain for Shore Health System, will lead “A Day of Mindfulness.” She is a graduate of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher training program founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. An experienced practitioner of mindfulness meditation, Kitenko is a skilled group facilitator who creates a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment.
“This workshop is an oasis in the stress of our busy lives,” Kitenko says. “It is an opportunity to learn a meditation technique that can bring about tranquility and mental clarity while cultivating the ability to reduce stress. The technique we will practice can deepen and strengthen mindfulness for those who are currently engaged in such a practice and provide encouragement for those who have drifted from practicing.”
Kitenko adds, “Participating in ‘A Day of Mindfulness’ is appropriate for anyone interested in the awakening and enrichment that mindfulness can bring about.”
During the workshop, participates will practice various types of meditation, including sitting, walking, eating, body awareness, gentle yoga and mindful dialogue. A portion of the day will be held in silence as an integral part of the experience. Participants are requested to wear comfortable clothing and to bring a yoga mat and bag lunch.
The cost of the program is $55 if payment is received before September 19 and $65 thereafter. Graduates of previous Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programs sponsored by Shore Health System will receive a 50 percent discount. Those who attend the October 4 workshop are eligible for a 10 percent discount if they enroll in the Spring 2009 Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course.
