Emergency Department Staff Named Every Day Heroes

Grateful patients are taking advantage of the Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Every Day Hero program to say “Thank You” to the physicians and nurses who help them through a medical crisis. This program, which was launched in June, gives patients and their families the opportunity to make a donation to the Foundation while acknowledged the excellent care received at The Memorial Hospital at Easton and Shore Regional Cancer Center. Although most of the donors prefer to stay anonymous, the people they praise can stand proudly in the limelight.

Thomas Chiccone, MD, and Lin Lee Allen, RN, who staff the Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, were recently honored as Every Day Heroes. Along with their donation to the Memorial Hospital Foundation, a local couple expressed their gratitude for how Dr. Chiccone and Allen cared for them during a medical emergency. While the husband was a patient, the wife was pleased to have had one physician and one nurse dedicated to his care. They were impressed by how personally and professionally Dr. Chiccone and Allen tended to their needs. The wife was especially grateful for how well she was kept informed and she said that she went home feeling calm and confident that her husband was in good hands.

The Everyday Hero Program now in place at Memorial Hospital and Shore Regional Cancer Center will expand to Dorchester General Hospital and the Diagnostic and Imaging Center by the end of the summer. Checks or credit card gifts can be in any amount and can recognize a specific person or a whole group. A donor’s tax-deductible gift can go the Memorial Hospital Foundation general fund or it can be designated for a specific service, such as cancer care or emergency services.
