The Memorial Hospital Foundation recently honored Margaret B. Ferree by naming the reception and waiting areas of the Memorial Hospital emergency services department in her honor.
“Maggie truly loves Memorial Hospital,” says Julia Marlowe, vice president of philanthropy for Shore Health System. “She has supported the hospital first as a Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteer then as an active and influential member of the Memorial Hospital and Shore Health System boards of directors.”
After retiring from active board service, Ferree was made an honorary member of the Shore Health System board of directors in 2006. She continues to stay up to date on the Memorial Hospital and the many ways it serves the community. “When Shore Health System began making plans for building a new emergency department at Memorial Hospital, Maggie made a financial gift to the Foundation because she recognized how vitally important these services are to our community,” Marlowe says.
On a recent visit to Memorial Hospital, Ferree was honored for her gift and taken on a tour of the new Emergency Services Center, the Freeman Outpatient Center and the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate.
During many years of volunteering on behalf of Memorial Hospital, Ferree served on many board committees. She chaired the Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing Committee for several years and gave time and valuable advice on the Memorial Hospital Foundation Scholarship Committee as well as committees that oversee plant and property, quality management, organization and compensation, human resources, planning, and pension and benefits.
During the Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 1980-81 capital campaign, Ferree donated funds that were used to build the Memorial Hospital radiology suite dedicated to her late husband, Russell Ferree.
As a volunteer with the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Ferree accumulated more than 14,500 hours, the equivalent of seven years of full-time employment. She helped organize the Memorial Hospital Information Desk and served twice as the Auxiliary’s president.
