Area musician Glenn Shiring offers guitar jam sessions and a mixed media class for young people at the Arts Council’s Centre for the Arts in Centreville, Maryland starting on Wednesday, April 14. The guitar class runs from 1:30 to 2:30 pm., and teaches beginning to advanced students of all ages acoustic, electric, bass, or slide guitar according to their experience level. In addition to learning and reviewing guitar basics, students will be encouraged to explore improvisational approaches to music and enjoy learning from this professional musician who performs solo and also with Chesapeake Folk Experiment. Shiring has released ten albums and performs at festivals, nightclubs and special events. Students will need a guitar and tuner. This is a four week session.
Shiring also offers a Mixed Media Art class for young people at the Centre. Using recycled materials, and a wide variety of media, students learn the freedom of exploration in this innovative class. Shiring teaches through demonstration and individual instruction in a focused and inspired studio environment. Materials are provided by the instructor. This four week class begins Wednesday, April 14 from 12-1pm. In addition to his musical credits, instructor Shiring is an accomplished artist who has had numerous shows and has taught afterschool programs and held student exhibits around the Eastern Shore.
