Habitat for Humanity of Talbot & Dorchester Counties is pleased to announce plans for its 4th Annual Raise the Roof event. Susan Devlin, HFHT&DC Executive Director describes this year’s event as “a ‘virtual’ home build providing the opportunity for friends near and far to ‘figuratively’ participate in the construction of homes and hope for local families.” The mission of Habitat is to construct homes which eliminates substandard housing in partnership with God’s people in need and funds raised from this event will enable Habitat to ‘literally’ build at least one home in its service area.
Raise the Roof 2009 will be on Friday, March 6 between 6pm and 8pm at Peninsula Construction’s model home at 28280 Hemmersley Street in Easton Village located close to Easton off the St. Michaels Road. Furthermore, local chefs and businesses will donate food and beverages. Committee member Anne Croker says, “The committee and staff felt that we needed to streamline costs while maintaining the highest quality experiences for guests so that more of the proceeds go directly toward construction of homes and helping families.” The ticket price will remain $65 per person with a portion of this price being tax-deductible. In addition, Croker says, “The best part is, guests will be encouraged to wear “Construction Festive” attire.”
The highlights of the event will be a live auction consisting of several vacation packages to destinations like Nantucket and the Outer Banks, the opportunity to buy a Russian Dinner for 10, art work by local artists and for the first time in event history a Sign Up to Raise a Roof and Raise the Spirit. “This year, we wanted to shift our focus from signing up for dinners to signing up to build a home,” states Devlin. The committee, in consultation with our Construction Staff, has carefully isolated each construction need and price per need. “We hope that an aspect of construction need will tug at your heart, lead to a donation and ensure homeownership for more local families,” says Devlin. HFHT&DC will use its website (www.hfhtdc.org), the event on March 6, and other means to engage supporters and keep the community informed about the progress of this ‘virtual construction’ effort.
HFHT&DC is grateful to our special event sponsors who have committed funds: Bruce and Sandy Hammonds, Chip and Sally Akridge, Scott and Stacey Brumbaugh, Paul & Rodanthe Hanrahan, Ilex Construction and Development, Kellogg Collection, Bill & Maxine Millar, Benson & Mangold Real Estate – Chuck Mangold, Jr, Decorating Den Systems Inc, Hoff Companies/ McDonald’s, Susan T.
