Historic Christ Church Rededication Ceremony

The public is invited to join the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8 at Historic Christ Church for a rededication ceremony in honor of the completion of major improvements and renovations to both the church and the fellowship hall.

Historic Christ Church (c. 1880), located at 121 East Main Street in Stevensville, is an exceptional example of Queen Anne style architecture. Over the last several years, many projects have been completed including a structural assessment, stabilization of the bell tower, re-plumbing of the bowing east wall of the sanctuary with custom metal braces, re-pointing of chimneys, roof repairs, floor joist replacement, wood floor restoration, wood window restoration, historic plaster repair, wood siding repair, historic paint analysis, as well as interior and exterior painting.

The attached Fellowship Hall improvements include: removal of old flooring, leveling and installation of new flooring, repair of plaster walls, fire proofing of paneling, repair and painting of original windows and installation of an ADA restroom.

Historic Christ Church is used by a Lutheran Church every Sunday. Friends of Historic Christ Church book and oversee weddings in the church. The Fellowship Hall is used by the Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation Department for its Tiny Tots Program for three and four year old children. Future plans call for the facility to be used as an arts district for concerts, plays, art shows and more.
