Oysters grown by volunteers on Maryland’s Eastern Shore are heading to a sanctuary. Watermen and volunteers will help the Oyster Recovery Partnership and the Department of Natural Resources collect the first batch raised by the Maryland Grow Oysters program. The year-old program on the Tred Avon River is one of a number of volunteer efforts to restore the filter-feeders that help clean bay waters. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation also conducts a program for those with waterfront property or pier access who are looking to raise oysters.
