On Wednesday, November 19th, over 150 people joined together at the Hospice of Queen Anne’s Center in Centreville for their Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Reception. This annual ceremony honors the lives of love ones that have passed away. In addition to the lights, the tree was decorated with doves holding the names of all the Hospice individuals that were remembered and honored.
This ceremony acknowledges both the challenge and the joy that the holidays present to many families. It was a beautiful way to honor and celebrate the lives of love ones who have died. As names were read, candles were raised. The focus was on love, light and remembering. Viewing all of the lights and the doves on the tree was a visual tribute to those who have touched our lives but are no longer with us. Most felt that being with others who understood their grief was a very healing experience.
As anyone knows who has experienced the death of a loved one, holidays can be a very difficult and distressing time. It hurts that they are no longer here celebrating with them.
Hospice of Queen Anne’s request that people take time this holiday season and remember with a card, a phone call or possibly a visit anyone they know that has lost a loved one during the year. If you have lost a loved one this year and will be experiencing your first holiday season alone, Hospice of Queen Anne’s want you to know that they care and have a bereavement program ready to assist you. Hospice of Queen Anne’s can be contacted at 443-262-4100. For more information on their bereavement program you may also visit their website at www.hospiceofqueenannes.com
