On Wednesday, January 21, Shore Health System welcomes the community to an open house to celebrate the grand opening of the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Shore Health System and the Kidney Transplant Clinic. The event will be held at The Memorial Hospital at Easton and begins at 4:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by refreshments and tours. Visitors can enter the hospital through the Freeman Outpatient Center.

The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Shore Health System is part of the University of Maryland Medical System Joslin Affiliate Program and is the only diabetes specialty clinic on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate offers a multidisciplinary program, which includes the services of endocrinologists, nurses who are certified diabetes educators and a registered dietician. In addition to providing medical care based on the latest research in the field of diabetes, the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate offers nutrition counseling and other educational support, including advice on exercise, stress reduction and lifestyle modifications.

The Shore Health System Kidney Transplant Clinic operates in partnership with the University of Maryland Medical Center and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The clinic is staffed with transplant surgeons, nephrologists, nurses, a social worker, dietician, cardiology nurse practitioner and patient financial assistance counselor, who work together to evaluate and prepare individuals who are candidates for a kidney transplant. Having this clinic in Easton makes it possible for residents of the Eastern Shore to make fewer trips to Baltimore while receiving care from the University of Maryland Medical Center’s world class kidney transplant specialists.
