KBI Investigating Chestertown Shooting

The Kent Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting incident on September that involved a Chestertown man who was shot in the abdomen. The victim was identified as Earl A. Johnson Jr., of the 23000-block of Woodsedge Drive, Chestertown. The victim was transported to the Chester River Hospital Center by his wife and friends after he sustained the gunshot wound. Maryland State Police and a KBI Investigator responded to the hospital and spoke to the victim about what happened.

The victim reported to investigators that he had gone outside his home to smoke and was approached by four men, who he could only describe as African American males. One of the males asked for a cigarette, which he provided. The victim said moments later, he heard a gunshot and felt a burning sensation in his abdomen. He returned to his house where he was subsequently transported to Chester River Hospital. The victim was later airlifted to Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he was listed in serious condition.

Investigators later received a tip indicating the shooting actually occurred inside the victim’s house. A search and seizure warrant was obtained for the victim’s residence. A handgun and other physical evidence were located inside the residence. Investigators are continuing the investigation to determine the exact course of events that led to the victim being shot.
