Nearly one in five or 19.3-percent of Kent County residents are 65 or older and more than half the households include someone 66 years of age or older. Homeports, a nonprofit senior home care cooperative located in Kent County, has the mission of addressing the needs of the aging population. Anyone over age 50 living in Kent County, Kingstown or Crumpton is eligible to join Homeports by paying $300 in annual dues. Homeports acts as a broker to help members obtain services such as home repairs, house cleaning, yard work, pet care and other tasks. Homeports also has assembled some 40 volunteers to help with trips to the doctor or drugstore, food shopping, computer use or any other activity that might be difficult for a senior. Homeports can be reached at 443-480-0940 or info@homeports.org or by visiting their web site www.homeports.org.
